About us

David and Angela Cavill have been deeply involved in the world of dogs for forty-five years as breeders and through their joint management of Southern Counties Canine Association.

Originally teachers, they established the Animal Care College in 1980, worked as deputies to the Director General of the Dogs' Home Battersea running its staff training centre for eleven years.  David was a board member of the Pet Care Trusts (now the Pet industry Federation) for over twenty years and runs a number of successful websites designed to help and encourage people look after pet animals to the highest standards.  They are not dog trainers or behaviourists: their focus has always been on excellence in animal care.

The National Register of Dog Trainers and Behaviourists is based on the successful I Judge Dogs website and is an entirely independent, not-for-profit community dedicated to helping individual dog owners find a supportive partner to ensure their dog is a well behaved canine citizen.

Basic registration is free to all professional dog trainers and behaviourists who may, if they wish, provide more information to owners for a nominal annual fee.  The Register is not sponsored, does not accept advertising and does not charge any commission from its members.

I Train Dogs is exactly what it says on the tin.  It is simply a 'Register'.  All members must sign up to the Code of Best Practice which was developed through meetings arranged by the Companion Animal Welfare Council which expects signatories to have in place professional liabilty insurance.  Otherwise all professional or semi-professional trainers and behaviourists are welcome whether the they run a local training class, train dogs to the gun, to work or to support the physically or metally challenged, re-habilitate dogs in rescue centres or work with serverely disturbed dogs with complex probelms.

Beacause the Register is 'open', we can only ask and expect the information provided by members to be correct and factual.  We are confident that it will be but we cannot take any responsibilty for its accuracy or be liable for any disputes arising between members and those who appoint or consult with them.  However, we encourage members to belong to a professional association which undertakes to investigate complaints and has mediation procedures in place.  We will be happy to help concerned clients to get in touch with the approriate organisation.
